Why we built an event space
Sterling Commercial Real Estate operates a brokerage, a property management company, and a commercial investment firm in Missoula. Understanding this city is the whole job: where it is growing, which blocks are about to change, what the people building here need.
This next chapter of the company is about getting closer to the pulse of Missoula. So we moved into 269 West Front Street, a block off the Clark Fork and next to Caras Park, which puts us within walking distance of many of our clients, the businesses we advise, and the rooms where decisions about Missoula get made.
The Landing is what came of that. A finished, bookable room in the middle of downtown, open to the boards, nonprofits, and companies that need somewhere good to meet.
What we're trying to do
Strong communities are built on real connection and a working local economy. It is the reason we moved downtown and the reason The Landing exists as a bookable space rather than a private boardroom.
A nonprofit board that meets in a borrowed basement is spending energy on logistics instead of its mission. A ten-person company running a training in a hotel conference room is paying for a room that does not fit. Missoula has a real shortage of mid-sized professional meeting space: bigger than a coffee shop table, smaller and less expensive than a hotel ballroom. The Landing sits in that gap on purpose.
Every meeting, training, and reception held here puts a few more people downtown for an afternoon, which is good for the businesses on this block and good for the city. That is the whole idea.
